My Process

1. Consultation

I begin by discussing the property, your lifestyle, functional requirements, architectural preferences, artwork, budget, and overall vision.

2. Existing Conditions

I review and document the existing space, identifying opportunities to improve its layout, circulation, proportion, lighting, and functionality.

3. Conceptual Design

I explore different layouts and establish the architectural direction through plans, sketches, references, materials, and three-dimensional studies.

4. Design Development

I refine the selected concept into a cohesive interior, developing the millwork, kitchens, bathrooms, lighting, materials, finishes, furniture, and architectural details.

5. Professional Coordination

When required, I coordinate with the architect of record, engineers, expeditor, building management, and other professional consultants.

6. Bidding and Contractor Selection

I work alongside you to identify suitable contractors, review bids, compare project scopes, and clarify pricing, scheduling, allowances, and exclusions.

If you already have a preferred contractor, I am happy to consider working with them. Before moving forward, I will review their relevant experience, completed work, capabilities, and approach to detailed custom construction to help ensure they are suited to the project.

7. Fabrication and Construction

Once you have selected the contractor, I coordinate design information, custom details, materials, specialist fabrication, and scheduling with the project team.

Depending on the design, fabrication may include:

  • Traditional cabinetmaking and joinery

  • Veneering and specialist finishes

  • CNC machining

  • Custom stonework

  • Architectural metalwork

  • Glass fabrication

  • Upholstery and soft goods

  • Integrated and decorative lighting

8. Review and Completion

Throughout construction, I remain involved to answer design questions, review progress, clarify details, and help maintain the agreed architectural vision.

At completion, I assist with the punch list and review the final details with you and the contractor.

Licensed architects and engineers are engaged when required for professional filings, structural work, building-code compliance, and permits.
